The Common Read, a series of events, readings and discussions centering on one text, will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium with a talk by Dr. Ousmane Power-Greene, a historian from Clark University in Worcester, Mass. He will introduce James, a story centering on the life of the slave Jim from Mark Twain’s classic The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, in terms of the literary history of the novel and the actual history of slave narratives and abolition, with a specific focus on Connecticut.
