Dear ICE Media,
What is it like to be in the process of transferring to a 4 year college? Does anyone plan to transfer in the Spring? How about trying to meet with an advisor to help make you feel comfortable and register for classes? This is where I am at. I thought I was set to transfer to Central Connecticut State University, but with a delay in communication and lack of cohesive information in terms of transfer advising, I am getting worried.
So far, I was accepted and completed the requirements at CCSU. The next step was to be in contact with an advisor. According to the main university website, in the undergraduate advising for transfer students page, their process is that “the advisors in the Student Services Center for the College or School in which you are planning to enroll, are notified and will reach out to you regarding next steps.” For the spring semester, which is when I am expected to start, it reads “Advisors will start reaching out to you in early November.”
However, the school my major is in, the School of Engineering, Science, and Technology, says something entirely different. It says students must “register for and attend a Transfer Advising Session so that we may begin the academic advising process.” I clicked on the link, logged in with my Central account, and saw no slots available that extends through the end of the year.
I am so confused as courses there opened at the beginning of the month and I was eligible to register this week. But it won’t let me until I met with an advisor!
At this point, the information CCSU gave for transfer students is confusing and it almost felt hard for a smooth transition to Spring.
The process of advising for new students here at CT State Manchester is relatively easy.
I have contacted the appropriate advising center and have gotton no response up until now. This is my last semester here and I want to feel like I am fully ready for next semester.
Sincerely,
Kevin Le
